Dr. Underwood is a Licensed Clinical and Forensic Psychologist. He earned two Bachelor of Science Degrees (Psychology & Human
Development and Family Studies) at the University of Utah. He earned a Master of Science Degree in Psychology at Idaho State
University. He then earned both a Master of Arts and his Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degrees in Clinical Psychology at the
California School of Professional Psychology in Fresno, California. Dr. Underwood achieved two areas of emphasis in his Doctoral
program (Forensic Psychology & Cross-Cultural Psychology). Dr. Underwood is an Elected Lifetime Member of Psi Chi - The National
Honor Society in Psychology. Dr. Underwood has published several professional articles and book chapters in both clinical and
forensic psychology. He has conducted several professional presentations at the state, national, and international level. He has
previously held the rank of Adjunct Professor in Criminal Justice at National University and the rank of Assistant Professor of
Criminology at California State University both in Fresno, California. Dr. Underwood has been a P.O.S.T Certified Instructor for Law
Enforcement and Correctional Officers in both California and Wyoming. Dr. Underwood was a Crisis Intervention Team (C.I.T)
Instructor for the Utah C.I.T. Correctional Academy. Prior to joining Draper Psychological Services, Dr. Underwood was the Clinical
Director and Training Director at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
Dr. Underwood has over 17 years of experience as a professional counselor and psychologist. He has extensive experience in both
general clinical and forensic psychology. He has several years of experience working in the prison/jail systems at all custody levels
in Montana, California, Wyoming, and Utah. He has several years of community mental health experience in Montana, California, and
Wyoming as well. Prior to relocating to Utah, Dr. Underwood owned and operated a large and successful psychological clinic in
Wyoming. He has expertise in assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health issues that range from relatively minor adjustment
disorders to severe and persistent mental illnesses; such as schizophrenia and personality disorders. Dr. Underwood has specific
expertise in working with the stressors faced among Law Enforcement/Correctional/EMS professionals and their families. He is also
specifically experienced in conducting High-Risk Pre-Employment evaluations. Dr. Underwood has experience in working with all age,
racial/ethnic, economic status, gender, and sexual preference groups.
Dr. Underwood is very family oriented and enjoys spending time, and traveling, with his family. He also enjoys music, movies, and his
many dogs. Dr. Underwood is also an avid auto racing, ice hockey, and University of Utah fan.
