Richard completed his Bachelor of Science and Master of Social Work degrees at the University of Utah and is currently finishing his Master of Business Administration degree at Weber State University. During his academic career at the University of Utah, Richard was involved in several research projects including the Consumer Perceptions Study, the Young Parenthood Program, Intimate Partner Violence, and Teen Dating Violence Prevention. He also worked with the Rape Recovery Center as a community outreach educator and taught junior high and high school students dating violence curriculum.

During his graduate program, Richard completed specific training in the areas of domestic violence, substance abuse, and trauma and gained experience working with both victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. Richard worked with city and county court systems in assessing, diagnosing, and providing court- mandated individuals with domestic violence and substance abuse treatment within individual, partner, and group settings. He has also spent time in northeastern Wyoming working with rural populations including adolescents in residential treatment, individuals with developmental disabilities, and children.

Richard has worked for more than 6 years in residential treatment centers and has extensive experience working with adolescents exhibiting behavioral and emotional discrepancies including anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, ADHD, addiction, self- esteem issues, and other mood disorders. Together with the adolescents and their families, he worked to build communication skills, establish healthy boundaries, and facilitate mutual understanding.

Richard has experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. He is currently a crisis therapist for a regional network of hospitals and completes assessments for individuals with acute psychiatric, mood, and addiction disorders.

Richard is very passionate about the financial markets. He is a licensed securities broker and financial advisor. His hobbies include trading futures and commodities, spending quality time with his family, traveling, running, golf, and relaxing on the northern California coast where he was raised.
